Getting the right mix of songs on your big day can make a real difference to how your guests remember it! Through the years we’ve had countless requests and thrown our own songs in there too. Here are some of our favourites that we have played at weddings in North Wales, Cheshire and beyond.

Jess - Somebody Else’s Guy by Jocelyn Brown

It’s always great when the audience know the words and sing along. My favourite is Somebody Else’s Guy by Jocelyn Brown. There’s a big note at the end of the intro that people love to try and hit!

Why It Works

It gives a great change of pace with a slow, soulful intro before hitting into a great groove that everyone can dance along to. Towards the end there is a clap along chorus that gets the audience involved

Best Time to Play It

We like to start the second set with it. It’s a high impact intro that stops people in their tracks.

Kris - Valerie by Mark Ronson and Amy Winehouse

I’ll go with an obvious one and say the Amy Winehouse version of Valerie as it never fails to fill up the dance floor. It usually falls later in the set for that reason to give everyone a lift as the night goes on. I remember it being the first song at a wedding at Holford Hall in Knutsford, though, and what a way to get the night started.

Why It Works

Everyone knows it! We love to put our own spin on tracks but sometimes going with an established classic is the way, even if that classic is somebody else’s take on a different song.

Best Time to Play It

Any time. If there is a sure fire song to get everybody going it is this one!

Adrian - Yubaba 90s Medley

We’ve worked on a few mashups and medleys over the last few years and the 90s dance mix stands out. It runs like a DJ set and it’s fun to see who has the stamina as it is a bit of an epic. We start with Street Player by Chicago as everyone knows the sax sample, moving into You Don’t Know Me and a few others before ending on Groovejet by Spiller. If that wasn’t enough, we’ve recently started mixing it into a Nile Rodgers medley and it means we can play a non stop mix for about half an hour.

Why It Works

Who doesn’t love the 90s? That alone gives it a headstart but the way it lets us stretch into dance territory using traditional instruments allows it to stand out.

Best Time to Play It

The second set when the party has really started and the audience has loosened up.

James - Ain’t Nobody by Chaka Khan

I might be biased as a keys player but there are so many great parts to this song! Instantly recognisable from the first notes. Nobody knows it as well as they think though. Every time we play it, the audience go into the first chorus too early!

Why It Works

It’s a simple, big chorus that is so easy to sing along to. The rest of the song almost doesn’t matter so long and you don’t need to know the words to get into the “Oh, oh oh” into the chorus.

Best Time to Play It

Laid back enough for the first set but upbeat enough for the second……it usually seems to fall towards the end of the second set.

Alex - Don’t Let Me Down by Marcia Griffiths

You can’t go flat out all night at every wedding. Sometimes you need your quieter tunes to give people a breather. Some laid back reggae at a hot, summer wedding can really work and suit the mood.

Why It Works

It gives us a chance to showcase our vocals. We start the song a capella with five vocals in harmony which really stands out from the rest of the set. You won’t meet anyone who can’t sing along either.

Best Time to Play It

This is definitely one for the first set when things can be more relaxed and finding their feed.

Ben - I Keep Forgetting by Michael McDonald/Regulate by Warren G

A bit of a curveball on this one! I Keep Forgetting is a cool tune in its own right but most people will know the music from being sample by Warren G for regulate. We blend the two together - starting off with the vocals from the original before hitting the Warren G rap in the middle. Credit to anyone who can keep up with Jess!

Why It Works

It gets people guessing. Each time we play it you can see the cogs turning as the audience tries to work out why they know the song. Aside from that, it has such a great groove that we all enjoy playing it.

Best Time to Play It

Similar to Don’t Let Me Down, this is a great laidback tune for a summer wedding. So probably somewhere towards the end of the first set.

That’s enough of our favourite songs. Why not pick your own?
